Click Here for DC Bands Telling Dirty Fetishes of 2009 in Agonizing Detail!

We've had a good year of lovers, teasers, highways, nights, fights, failures, pleasures, houses, peoples, families, frights, story tellers, thoughts, girls, boys, toys, sleepovers, dreams, machines, meals, deals, and automobiles.

The Internet does a lot of things now. It talks to you, sings to you, pleases you. It plays music and shows videos. The world is changing for better or worse. Its gonna cook your dinner and put you to bed. Take off your boots and tickle your head. We connect to people with insides by going through the far side. Plug and play and make a date. Don't forget to propagate.

People living, people dying, people getting fatter and shorter, people running all around and people singing out aloud.

We can talk about the future in the past tense and make movies about things that don't even make sense. We can run around naked and fall asleep in trees. Sing to the birds and serenade the bees.

GO OUT! GO OUT! WREAK HAVOC ON THE DAYS AND WEEKS AND YEARS TO COME! Love the world! Accept other people's beliefs but fear not your own!

Hello out there

Hey friends,

We are working on several things right now, and we have so many giant ideas that we are trying to pull out of our brains to give to you.

But you'll just have to wait a little bit longer for some new stuff.

We do have a few shows coming up in the DC area, if you're around. One of which is next week.
9/19: H Street Festival @ SOVA with Stripmall Ballads and Matt Hemerlein

Now, we cannot just leave you with a few words, so here's some beautiful stuff thats been inspiring this Frau Eva camper (guess who!)

First up: Beach House - Used to Be

Arguably, the best track they have released to-date. That mid-section breakdown melts my heart. There's a live version out there of them performing on a beach with a special clip following the song that gives you some insight on their influences for this (sort of) new direction.

Speaking of melting hearts, these beautiful kids from my home town got me crushin' hard.

My bro Eliot did the video. He's been working with some great talent lately (ahem... us included), and we really do love his work.

Cannot wait to see what all of these kids do in the future, but I'm so happy that I get to enjoy this until then.

ENJOY!

We're on film

Hey kids,

If you haven't checked out our myspace in a while, we've made a few upgrades. The most important of these is the video we made with my step bro Eliot. He also took that shot of us right on the top (of the myspace... the lovely Charlotte Kesl shot the one up top here). He's legit. Here's another one that he shot.

The video for Morrissey Smiling can be seen on our myspace (and it does look nice there), but why not post it here too, eh?

We shot this in my parents back yard when we were on tour. I love those cane fields... This is part 1 of 2, so be on the look out for a similar version of Don't Wait For Me.

In unrelated news, the Girls video that Chris told us about last week has been released. It is pretty awesome! Check it out.

Partying with Girls - It's not cheating...

Well, Davey and I try to just chill and take a break while Pree is on tour, but we always end up getting into crazy situations (we should have a sitcom?)...

Last night we went to 9:30 club to see Girls, The Smith Westerns, and headliners Los Campesinos. The first two were great. I had to walk out on the LC. They were killing my buzz from the first two bands...

Anyway, we ended up talking to Girls after the show... yada yada yada... we find ourselves chilling on my roof with the dudes from Girls and the young (and talented) lads of The Smith Westerns listening to 80's metal casettes on the Girls drummer's boom box deep into the night.

It was a good Wednesday night to say the least, although I doubt it compares to this one:

Amazing video from this great band. Be on the lookout for their upcoming video for Lust For Life. Chris says its way better than this video, if you can believe it. Can't wait to hear their album.

tour pictures!

Hello folks from Burlington, VT. I'm here on non-Frau Eva business, but the blog fans still want to keep tabs on my life, eh?
We're here in this great cafe called Radio Bean. We play in about an hour, and pretty cool band is playing right now. This city is really beautiful- and Lake Champlain- I had no idea.

Anywaaay... I've been meaning to do this for a while: the digital pictures I took on our tour can be seen here. You don't have to belong to facebook to view them. Enjoy!

Memory Lane

Well, Vanessa is on tour with Pree right now, and Davey and I are missing her... (We miss May and Chris too) We are staying busy jamming with friends, working on new songs, and procrastinating at our day jobs. Here's a pic we took while we were on tour. You can't really see it, but we were at the Nantahala river in North Carolina. This is where I was hired as a raft guide several years ago before going over to the Chattooga River in SC. I have so many memories in and around this river, and I loved stopping here with Dave and Vanessa.

This was on our drive from Asheville to Jackson. We would not have been able to stop here if our camp show hadn't been cancelled... Thanks Swine Flu!

Be on the look out for Frau Eva in video form!

our next show

Some very exciting news! It is confirmed that we will be playing at the The Rock and Roll Hotel. The excitement is two-fold: we get to play a great venue. we are on a bill that has Pree headlining (more bands TBA). This means double duty for me (vanessa here), something I've never done before at this level, as well as the chance to play with some of our fondest friends.

The show is Saturday, August 22, and I do hope if you live in the District, you'll be there! We'll be glowing :)

Also, I'm leaving this Saturday for a 2-week tour with Pree, so thatll leave the boys at home to have fun with some new material/ideas. I'll miss them! Frau Eva practice to resume mid-August... bye y'all

ready.. set...

We're very excited to present our first internet-friendly interview here (we had a great live one at the Tulane University radio station... but that is recorded nowhere. only in your mind if you were lucky enough to hear it).

One of my favorite DC Blogs, ReadySetDC came to our last show at The Velvet Lounge, and was sufficiently impressed enough to kindly take our picture (right after we played our set-note Ben's red cheeks). He also sent us some questions which we discussed over delicious local Green Man brews at this fine establishment in Asheville. Today the interview was posted. So, thanks to Justin, and everyone please enjoy...

Merry Christmas, Louisiana

So we’re finally back in DC…
After forsaking our blogging duties for most of the tour, blogger's guilt is finally setting in...

The rest of the tour was pretty amazing. Ben's Louisiana fan club came out in droves to the shows... We fell in love with Louisiana a little bit. The people who came out were so friendly and awesome. I was talking to a man in Lafayette, and our conversation went something like the following:

Man: You guys sounded great, but you’re a tall fellow and the mic's down there...
Me: Well I guess I bend over a bit to sing into the microphone.
Man: Merry Christmas!
Me: I guess I got used to singing that way because I originally played bending down to look at my fingers, and now I just feel more comfortable playing that way.
Man: Merry Christmas! There you go. Yea you played bending over but it sounded okay. Everything else sounded good, except the girl's mic...
Me: Vanessa?
Man: yes, merry christmas, the instruments were up here and her voice was a down there...
Me: Yea I guess her vocals were a little low in the mix...
Man: Merry Christmas!

I looked up "merry christmas" in the urban dictionary of slang... but got:
Something you say to somebody to wish them a joyful and happy Christmas. Also slightly politically incorrect, because an ass-load of people in Iraq are dying and 1 billion of the Earth's 4 billion people live off less than a dollar per day.

But what does it mean when you say it in the middle of July? If only there was a "rural dictionary" of slang... or perhaps this man suffered from some sort of holiday tourettes?
Anyway, it was one of those times when you get a sneaking suspicion that Santa hides out in Louisiana in his down time, and is bad at concealing his identity.

Swine Flu and a Broken Sandal Dash our Hopes and Dreams

We're off. I'm writing to you from the wonderful city of Asheville, North Carolina. I'll try to describe our journey so far.

In DC we got off to a perilous start. We left DC by 9:00. Trying to pack light, Vanessa decided to bring only a single pair of flip flops, but before we even left DC, one of them snapped. We knew that the road would throw some crazy obstacles our way, but this was just sad. Her lightweight foot apparel had flipped its last flop. Hopefully the road would be kinder to us the rest of the way.

We stopped off at my alma mater, Washington and Lee University, in Lexington, VA, since it was on the way. I gave the extended tour, we picked up some tasty wraps, and were off again by 1:30.

Our minivan is fucking sweet. We have plenty of room for the three of us and a CD player, which is getting very good use. Our playlist is diverse to say the least; the craziest thing we heard was a piece by serialist composer Milton Babbitt... yo... that was even crazier than early Deerfhoof.

We arrived at the venue, the Garageat Biltmore at 6:30. I hope all the places we play are this cool. From the inside it looked like a huge barn/warehouse converted into a music/art hangout spot... There is a ton of art for sale on the walls, and large insulation panels to help absorb the sound. The people there are very chill wonderful people, with a cool hippie vibe.

We ate at a place called "Little Pig", where I experienced my first North Carolina BBQ... when we got back to set up for the show, our minds were already blown from the tasty tangy pigs we just ate, and they were blown even more when we realized we left Vanessa's bag with her pedals and cables and slide at iota in Arlington. Oops. We can't really go back to get them... Usually bands don't lose lots of equipment until after they play their first show on tour, but we don't like to procrastinate.

The show was good. I felt like the chill environment or the city put my nerves at ease, but it seemed that having to improvise with no pedals and a glass candleholder for a slide sent Ben's nerves in the opposite direction.

Saint Solitude played before us - he was one of those awesome solo acts who's mastered the art of the loop station. Grammer School played after us; they played a bunch of songs, some of which sounded like crazy gypsy surf music.

Oh... to explain the "Swine Flu" part of the title, we were going to play a show at a summer camp in Georgia, but because the entire camp was quarantined due to a Swine Flu outbreak, the show was cancelled. I was more excited about going to summer camp now, than when I was 13... Oh well...

Thanks so much to El and Dan!!!!! Wonderful Tutwiler hospitality, and amazing coffee.

Now we've got a free night! Camping? Fire-side jam? Who knows? Check back tomorrow for the scoop.
